The first massager we'll be reviewing is one of my faves, the Layaspot by FunFactory. German company FunFactory has always impressed me. They use medical grade, body safe silicone; their designs are innovative, sexy, and fun; they don't take themselves too seriously; but best of all, their stuff works! The Layaspot fits into the curve of my hand nicely. The buttons are easy to utilize and therefore make adjusting the speed and intensity easy too. User beware though, if you put the batteries in opposite of the diagram on the toy, which I did at first, when you cap the end of it closed, the Layaspot will immediately come on and not stop until you take the batteries out! So, just take care to read the instructions and this little guy can take you to ergonomic, orgasmic bliss! (4 Os out of 5)

Lelo's Nea didn't fare as well on the O-factor scale. While Nea is beautiful, pretty doesn't always mean that you're going to be satisfied. In fact, Nea frustrated the hell out me! While this massager also fits the bill as an ergonomic beauty, nestling discreetly in the palm of my hand, I didn't have as much ease of use since the settings were on the bottom of the toy, which made it difficult for me to change during solo-play. So, I'd take it off and experiment with the settings. The lacquer finish and the silver tattoo detailing are nice, but in the end, I wanted to cum and got a bit angry that I paid so much to get so little. Nea is not cheap, as massagers go. I don't mind paying more for a good product especially if it lasts and does the job. I commend Lelo for being at the forefront of sensual design, and hands down they have some of the sexiest products on the market. I would like to keep buying, as well as recommending their products, but I find it difficult to do so when they leave me with metaphorical blue-balls :( (2 Os out of 5)

I hate to keep harping on, but here I go! I was super excited to get the new Nomi Tang Better than Chocolate Designer Vibrator. Oooh, the name is so cheeky and decadent, I couldn't help myself and ordered it when I heard about it! But, sometimes, like when a jack-in-the box is all wound up--you get oversold and over-hyped. So, what you get instead of a bang is just a sad whimper. Most of the time, I say, it's time to re-assess my expectations. But, the Better than Chocolate has no excuse! It purported itself to BE BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE! Every girl knows how delicious the right bite or morsel can be, how endorphins can kick in and make a terrible situation look less...well, terrible under the hazy influence of cacao & coco butter.

The BTC Vibe is NOT better than chocolate. In fact, this designer waste should be crossed off your list. Am I being harsh? Hey, it was purported to BE BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE, a crime that is inexcusable because it is such an awful lie! I will say, Nomi Tang's designers had good intentions. Ergonomically speaking, it is the best out of the 4 massagers that I am reviewing today. It is wide, fits my palm nicely, and the controls are at the top where my fingers can easily access and change my speed or intensity. It is also made of medical grade, body-safe silicone. But, the goodness stops there! This toy supposedly incorporates the iTouch technology so there are really no buttons to fumble with during play. However, locking a setting, finding a setting was not easy and the power was such a disappointment. Good idea, bad execution. (o out of 5)

I'm book-ending my review by leaving you on a happy note! CalExotics, considered to be the largest manufacturer of adult novelties, has paid attention to what their customers want by giving them versions of products like the Layaspot or Nea, using similarly luxurious materials at a lower price. Don't underestimate a manufacturer like CalExotics, who may sit back a bit and let these newer companies like Nomi Tang succeed or fail. The successes, like the Layaspot, they study and give us their own version of, while the duds, they also study and probably get a lot of good information to take back to their design studios. Who said a little competition was a bad thing? Today, because of upstarts like Lelo and FunFactory, the big names that we know have to improve on what they do. We as consumers benefit!

The Couture Collection from CalExotics is a brand that directly competes with other luxury & designer names but at a nicer price point. I first saw the rather ordinarily named massager, called the Masseur, of the Couture collection when I was researching new products to put on the Pleasuredevils.com site. Trolling through all of my manufacturers websites, I came across the Masseur and wondered if it was available yet? I remember thinking to myself that I hoped the Sexpert Department from CE sent this to me as my next assignment. When the I got my mail it was as if my prayers were heard! Lo and behold, there it was, the Pink Masseur! She's not as acutely curvy as the Layaspot, but she is good lookin' and just as powerful! Her controls are easy to access and handle, she's made of body safe, medical grade silicone, and most important, she got me REALLY excited and gave me a happy ending! (4 Os out of 5)

Oh my where to start?

Truly, the Nubby G was a disappointment in comparison to the Power G! Much as many of you eschew toys that have to be plugged-in to a power source, this side-by-side comparison really makes the case for toys that are dependent on external power.

The Nubby G is an exact copy of the Power G except that it is fueled by 2-AA batteries. It was my hope that the two would not just be exact copies of each other in form, but in function as well. However, the Nubby G is much, much weaker than the Power G and really cannot compare.

I will maintain that both have excellent G-Spot play shape. Both are formed with TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer), which means that this puppy can be much abused and still retain its wonderful G-Spotter shape!

The Nubby G gets an O (1 out of 5) for optimum shape & suppleness of material, but loses many marks for lack of power.

The Power G gets OOOO (4 out of 5) for optimum shape; suppleness of material; and for power that really makes a girl smile. Full marks are not achieved because it would be perfect if it could be detachable and/or rechargeable and if it was made out of medical grade silicone.

Pink Ecstasy

What a triumph for Cal Exotics! The Ecstasy from the new Petite Couture collection really impressed me from the get-go. When the toy arrived in the mail the first thing I noticed was the lack of chemical-plastic smell that typically accompanies most vibes. This is a big deal to me. I mean, who wants to put a smelly object in their most sacred parts?

The Ecstasy is made of Japanese medical grade silicone, completely eliminating that awful odor. And, a big bonus to silicone toys is that they are not just odor-less, but they are firm without being overly hard and retain body-heat for amplified user comfort.

Now, I was a little skeptical of the motor, which runs on 3 AAA batteries. Self-confessed, I am a power-whore and love big motors between my legs. But, I am learning that more doesn't always necessarily mean better. In fact, what really delivers for this toy is the rotation function in the head of the shaft at 3 different speeds. The vibration, though increasing incrementally, never got to the sometimes-numbing speeds that the Hitachi Magic Wand or the Wahl do. So, it may seem a little disappointing at first blush.

No matter what you decide to call it, sex toys, romance toys, intimacy toys...fuck toys, the reputation of the "thing" precedes itself.

Before an introduction to the toy's charms or foibles can be made too often our misconceptions, prejudices, and biases inform how we react to the "idea" of being presented to each other.

Odd that. It's sort of the same with people. At least with me it is!

People react back. They're variables and so, are necessarily scarier to me. Toys, on the other hand, just "are" and it's our choice to utilize them for our pleasure or not, no matter if we are introduced to them by our friends, lovers, or even by ourselves.

It's taken me years to overcome my shyness of meeting new people. The prospect of failing to be charming, to be witty, to be of some sort of import in the general conversation, to be useful, to be liked has, in years past, paralyzed me.

I liken an intro to a toy to that of a person because what I have come to find is that the fear of just getting to know a toy or what it is about is just as silly as the fear of meeting new people.

Ok, so not the best setting to go out and meet new peeps to make a good first impression with. But, hey, that's what I USED to do!

Arriving at our party, dinner, or drink-at-a-bar date I engaged new people because they were there in front of me. During the course of forcing myself to interact, I started to relax and about 99% of the time I'd begin to feel really silly because I began making friends and a lot of the mental hives that I previously experienced were unfounded.

So, these days, I've reprogrammed myself and have begun to look forward to new encounters because they often times mean good, new experiences and good new friends.

The key to this transformation, besides some good experiences to positively reinforce the new programming, is choice. Choice to let go of the fear. Choice to embrace that this new thing, new experience, new friendship is within my hands, my control. I can choose to see the possibility and make something of it, or I can choose to fear it and not give myself the opportunity to learn something new, grow a relationship, grow myself.

Whether or not it's true for everyone, for me fear is about the insane idea that something is being taken away from me, that I'll be lessened in some way, or that I'll be found to be lacking somehow. Confronting my fears or accidentally finding them to be false, I find that new people, experiences, places, situations...none of these EVER take away from, reduce, or strip me. In fact they add to me, give me depth, joy, pleasure, knowledge, development, and so much more.

Delving Into the Dark Side: Part I

I will admit that it is only recently that I have fully embraced my deep fascination for domination/submission. It has always been my strongly held belief that I fill only the role of the Submissive Woman. But, as I told someone over this past weekend, you never know what you are truly capable of until you remove the words "can't" or "are not" before that which you heretofore believed you were.

In fact, it's amazing what one is capable of being or doing when you just embrace it and say, YES I AM that which I've decided to BE!

It's empowering. It's exhilarating. It's intoxicating.

So, while I dabbled and told partners past that what I enjoy is being in the submissive role, it's been my utter delight and shock to discover that I've really only scratched the surface of what that really means. It took the complete surrender of my self to a darker side of me that I never knew existed to understand what true submission really means.

It's a sexy job, but someone's gotta do it!

My first assignment as a Sexpert for CalExotics brought me closer to the One Touch Wonder Egg.

As many of you already know, I am an advocate of playing with a toy more than once to fully appreciate its features and design. It's not easy to discover what erotically creative uses any gizmo can inspire if it's only used once. Just because it doesn't quite work the first time doesn't mean that it will perform the same the next if you decide to do something different with it. Toys are enhancers, accessories, if you will, to the "main" event or experience! So, the declaration of a toy design as a success is much tied to the user's patience, creativity, and understanding of it's proper usage.

This, of course, does not mean that a toy's success rests solely on the user. If a toy is poorly designed, then, a toy is poorly designed. So, don't get me wrong, I'll toss something if it's more bother than it's worth. But, I DO like to see just how resourceful I can be, and therefore, always try to "make it work" with what I've got! It's a perspective or a way of living that naturally extends to all aspects of my life, from making a gourmet dinner from the random ingredients in my refrigerator to the toys I try out and bring into my bedroom. It is all about adventure and experimentation. And, it's a thrilling, personal challenge to eke out an incredible experience from anything I decide to do or endeavor!

But, forget about all that preamble!

What you really want to know is: "Was it good for me?"

Let me lay a little groundwork on my strategy and philosophy behind the method to my reviewing madness!

I like to keep an open mind, but sometimes it's difficult when I get excited or discouraged about the idea and design just by looking at the package and imagining what the little sucker can or can't do!

I am guilty of having prejudices from the first blush. From a toy re viewer's standpoint, by that I mean that I anticipate the efficacy of a product by the outward appearance, manufacturer's description and specifications, what I know of myself, and what I think that particular object will do for me. A little pre-limiting yes, but also a reality. But, I DO like to be pleasantly surprised!

To be fair, what I'd like to do is relate all of my "first blush" prejudices and why. This way you as the reader or consumer can decide for yourself whether or not my biases are something you should take into account for your own consideration. I will then, happily, test :) And, lastly, I will relate my experience and share my rating of the product based, of course, on that particular test.

Soooooo, now, we arrive at the Egg--the One Touch Wonder.

First Blush Impressions:

Upon opening my package, I thought, velvet-cote, niiiice! I definitely like the feel of this egg. Smooth and, well, velvety, this means that it won't be jarringly cold when initially applied to my skin. This also means that the finish won't be coming off or fading off like some of the other toys on the market that are hard plastic with faux metal finishes or printed-on designs. Another observation that was noteworthy, the On-Off switch is on the little bell at the end of the cord, so no clunky attached remotes! Sweet!

After a few moments of looking over the product, my guess was that it was going to be a great toy for G-Spot stimulation during partner play and/or solo play with the assist of another vibe. Why? Mostly because as I looked at the toy and put the two N batteries that it came with inside the egg, I considered a prominent prejudice I have regarding toys with motors: vibes requiring less than 3 double-A batteries rarely have enough power or strength to satisfy. But, I'd like to be pleasantly wrong, so I pushed the little button at the end of the cord to test the power.

Wow! Nice vibrations on any of the three settings! I begin to wonder if my initial impressions may be false. Setting 1 is the constant hyper-vibe, setting 2 is the interval ascending vibe, and setting 3 is the low-to-intense interval vibe. The Egg is turned off by holding the On-Off switch down for a few seconds.

Time to test this baby!

The Test:

While the One Touch Wonder does have fairly good vibration, it still wasn't quite as strong enough to declare it a smashing success. It took a bit more effort on my part, but I was able to have a personal "happy ending" by using the egg on it's own as an external stimulator. What's great about this egg is that it has a nice wide surface if turned and used horizontally rather than vertically. I keep searching for a vibe or a massager that has a wider motor surface because precision clit vibration means I have to keep the toy on the "right" spot at all times. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I mind multi-tasking, but it does take away from some of the abandon of achieving orgasm if you have to split your focus. So, the One Touch Wonder gets 3 "OOOs" for versatility of positioning, and 2 "OOs" for power for external stimulation.

I also give the One Touch 3 "OOOs" for the redesign of a classic by putting the control at the end of the chord. This design not only makes the One Touch Wonder a little more modern and sleek, but it also lessens accidental changes in settings, which can be frustrating. How many of us were right about to cum when we accidentally rolled over the remote, changed the vibration speed of a toy, and then lost the ethereal path to orgasmic nirvana? Yep, it's happened to all of us!

So, after my little solo-play, I enlisted the aid of my partner for further research.

I am a self-professed shoe addict.

I la la la love shoes!

Dust off those Sex Toys!

Just like we aren’t born knowing how to ride a bicycle, we aren’t born knowing how to use sex toys. It may seem instinctive, intuitive, or at least think it should be just as we’re trying to understand the many different functions of that new gadget we just got.

Most of the time, I am enticed by the packaging or the marketing of a new toy. Like a little girl super excited about testing out her newest acquisition, I usually go home and take my shiny new object for a test drive as soon as privately possible!

I would love to say that every toy I’ve ever bothered to purchase worked the way it was supposed to and gave me endless amounts of pleasure. But alas, this was true for about 60% of the toys I’ve purchased.

Sure we girls have different anatomies and different toys just seem to do it for different people. But, there are some techniques and certain gadgets that seem to be universally accepted as the “sure thing.”

Being classified as someone that is a “hard” come, or rather difficult to orgasm, I accepted that despite the almost unanimous claims of the Rabbit as being a wonder-toy that I was the exception to the rule. Little did I realize that a lot of making a toy work was revisiting it and practicing with it! Much like riding a bicycle or doing anything new. Practice!

The Rabbit, as I’ve pointed out above, was one of the first toys I’ve ever tried in my adult life and summarily dismissed. It was also one of the first toys that I revisited a few years later to discover what everyone else had—bliss, pure orgasmic bliss! I am not sure if it was user error, user impatience, user frame of mind, and/or better and new technology. Maybe it was as combination of all of these factors that made the first experience a not so good one and the later experience a MUCH better one!

Either way, it taught me that my anatomy wasn’t all that different. I might still be difficult to orgasm by some standards, but if a toy worked for a good number of people, then I probably wasn’t using it right. Also, it made think that there were toys in my box of “unused” sex toys that I should revisit and retest.

The four different factors: user error, impatience, frame of mind, and new/better technology, were things that I began to look at more closely as I looked into my history of toy usage.

In almost all, but two, my partner and I were able to go back to some of the toys that have puzzled me, or rather us, in the past and made them work. Hurrah! Not only did I feel gratified that the money I spend wasn’t wasted after all, which was usually part of the disappointment that I felt after a new gadget didn’t work it’s magic, but I also learned something new about myself, my anatomy, and where my mental or emotional state had to be in order for some of these things to work.

A lot of the times, I really needed just to relax, take more time, and live more in my body and less in my mind—essentially it was the letting go of expectations and allowing the body to just respond to the design of the toy. There’s a certain amount of release in the mind that has to happen and a certain amount of allowing one to live fully in the body and the senses that isn’t taught to many people. My suspicion is that this is what has made it so difficult for me to achieve orgasm previously.

Re-trying and revisiting some of these toys was really fun! My partner and I, already doing recent research into g-spot orgasms, were also able to put some of our new found knowledge to use and found that these techniques go hand-in-hand with the ergonomics and design of some of these toys that we prior to felt were useless!

So, I guess I can’t really say I’m a “hard” or difficult come. I’ve had too much recent success to be able to complain about that! But I will say that the old adage, “practice makes perfect” is true in the case of many toys. Having some determination and creativity in making something work is also needed, along with a good dash of patience and maybe even a little bit of analytical thought.

It seems like sex toys shouldn’t be this hard to work and that it should just do its “thing” and get you off. Well, I hate to burst your proverbial bubble, but most toys aren’t like that. And thank goodness! If they were, well, we wouldn’t have to think and they wouldn’t be as much fun. In fact, I would argue that maybe the reason these toys aren’t so fun to figure out is that most people have to do it on their own! Sure, I can see where if you just want to release some pent-up tension, doing some analytical work on a new object will probably make for some very frustrating minutes with yourself and your new gadget. And, the whole factor of patience is then thrown out the window!

If you do decide you want to revisit or re-try a toy, I suggest doing it with your partner. It’s always more fun to do it as a team and two heads are better than one, erm….two people thinking on the ergonomics and design that is! If you’re honey isn’t too sure about using toys or thinks they are strange and weird, this is a wonderful time to enlist their help and get them used to the idea of toys as an additional enhancement in your bedroom repertoire!

There are so many good reasons to revisit that old box of sex toys that just didn’t seem to quite do it the first time! Introducing: The Freak-O-Meter

I often forget how shocking I can be to the uninitiated eye.

My love for dramatic color and flair is something that I have embraced with such abandon. The fluorescent colors and hyper-pigments of my make-up, clothing, and hair have been accepted by most of the people that see me on a daily basis. What to many seems garish, outlandish, and outré to me just seems…well, normal!

I live by the rule, do what makes you happy (with the proviso not to harm anyone or thing). And, what makes me happy are colors. Lots of them!!!

It seems too, that my colorful shell matches a lot of my inner energy. So, it might be said that I’m a loud, colorful, and intense personality. Hell, I like to call it amiable and dazzling, but I think more would say that I am very assertive. The more charitable of the bunch would say that my personality is simply strong. But, I am as mushy and sentimental as they come. Rather, the more you know of me the more you will realize that I am quite gentle of spirit, even if somewhat flamboyant in appearance.

It made me wonder and protest to myself, just because I have a loud appearance doesn’t necessarily mean that I have a loud personality!!! Ok, I admit, I am high-energy and I do have a flair for the dramatic. But, I also have a deep, spiritual side that can be still. My capacity for this is not overshadowed by my love for color or vividness in all things.

I found this dichotomy interesting and pondered about what I might be projecting—sexually—that is.

A memory from a few years ago came to me in my musings. I remember being hit on by a guy in a bar at a local hotspot, Sino at Santana Row, then a swanky-singles-meat-market, if you will. This yokel’s S.O.P. was to grab the hands of girls, read their palms, and tell them their future. While I laughed this guy’s flimsy attempt at a gimmick, his “reading” of my palm did give me pause.

“You appear very sexual, but in point of fact and reality are not!” Putting aside the artless and terrible application of reverse psychology and pop-metaphysics, the guy's proclamation nonetheless made me stop and think.

Perhaps, though I appear exuberant and vocal about my sexual appetites, much like that of my appearance, I am not really as “freaky,” or as outlandish, or eccentric in my sexual demands or desires. So it lead me to thinking about other friends that seemed sexually open and vocal. After segregating the sexually vocal to who I deemed in my mind as almost-sexually mute, I began to think that there is no real correlation between being sexually outspoken to that of being sexually peculiar.

Just because you are loud doesn’t also mean you are freaky!

For example, I like guys that take the lead and are in control; they’ve got to be firm and make me feel feminine and overwhelmed. I’m rather opinionated about this and tell just about anyone that asks me what my preference is to lovemaking. However, if you think on it, this is not that uncommon for a lot of women. It seems that it is simply easier for my very sexually vociferous friends and I to talk about what we want in the bedroom.

Others, however, require a much more quiet and intimate setting before they give up their secrets. I had the privilege of learning some of the sexual proclivities of some of my quieter, less flamboyant friends in past few months; and I will be honest, they shocked me! Some of these quiet, unassuming, yet very layered and complex people have some really layered and complex desires. It makes sense and yet perception seems to be so counter-intuitive.

So, having this on the brain, I got into a rather long, but fun, debate with my friends a few weekend ago regarding the idea that strong sexual personalities, or rather seemingly strong sexual personalities, also tend to project strong sexual proclivities—i.e. they look like they rank up in the Freak-O-Meter because they are vocal about their sexual appetites.

Ahh, yes, we’ve come to the very scientific Freak-O-Meter. It's really just an arbitrary scale measuring sexual penchant—basically, it’s a freak-flag measuring stick. It’s foundation relies mostly on observation, conjecture, sneaky surveys that I've peppered into normal conversation, and at present, from some long, but very friendly debates.

I argued with everyone that just because I told everyone what I liked didn’t make me high on the Freak-O-Meter scale! In fact, I tried to make a case that I was a good, solid 6.5. I was laughed home and given a 9 unanimously by the group that I was debating. Yikes!

So, I can’t argue that I’m a 9 since they’ll all just think what they want to anyways. However, doesn’t it make you stop and think about the quiet ones; the ones who seem reserved and patient; the ones that seem ready to explode?

I explode with colors and excitement all the time at all things, I don't perceive myself to be pent up and feel rather secure in emphatic gestures or sentiments. However, others that aren't nearly as comfortable with being sexually brazen, we might mistake to rank at 4.5 or a 5.2 on the scale because they have more mellow attitudes and are less ostentatious. And, more often than not, we'd be wrong!

Think about it!

Doesn’t anyone remember a quiet lover that completely took them by surprise because they didn’t seem to be so freaky, so nasty, so dirty from first blush? And haven’t a lot of them been the ones that don’t necessarily have to be so expressive about it?

I hate to conclude that simpler tastes and minds express themselves more simply or more readily, because I don’t believe myself to be that simple. However, I do know and believe that despite my complexities, I tend to express and think in simpler terms; less in layers and rather more in singular interconnected ideas. And so, I also tend to express my sexuality and desires in simpler, singular, yet interconnected ideas.

On the flip-side, it can’t be summarily said that quiet, less-vocal people are more complex and, so too, that means their expressions and ideas, especially about sex and their sexuality, are equally so. I think we all have layers and unique idiosyncratic sexual appetites. In truth it’s subjective as to where one falls on the Freak-O-Meter. If I’m judging the gal next to me based on my Freak-O-Meter, she might fall higher or lower based on what’s comfortable for me and what shocks my socks off. But, if the same gal were to rate me based on her own scale, I may or may not be as high or low as I think I fall on mine as the scale now has a new barometer--now it's based on the imaginary, invisible gal's freakiness-factor sitting next to me.

I’d really love to Trade Mark the Freak-O-Meter, but since it’s a sliding scale, it might be difficult to get peeps to buy into it if their subjectivity is a variable in determining benchmarks. Besides, someone beat me to it, check out http://www.freakometer.net/

I'd like to challenge the idea that I'm a real "9," as I may appear to rank high because of my seeming expressiveness. My friends, or anyone else for that matter, will need to examine their own Freak-O-Meter scale before I can fully rank on it. In turn, I'll have to look at my own scale and determine why I think I rank a 6.5, because if I perceive myself as such, then what the heck does it say about what shocks and awes me if a 6.5 on my scale is really a 9 on others?

Well, for now, I’m freaky until proven otherwise!
